When Zoe Deutch commented on my Instagram reel asking me to help her find her colour season, I immediately knew this would be such a fun one to explore.
Zoe has that naturally rich, striking colouring that often points towards one of the Autumn palettes. But rather than the soft, muted warmth of Soft Autumn or the golden brightness of True Autumn, Zoe’s colouring has more depth, contrast and intensity.
That’s why I would place Zoe Deutch in Deep Autumn.

What Is Deep Autumn?
Deep Autumn sits between Autumn and Winter on the seasonal colour analysis spectrum. It combines the warmth and richness of Autumn with some of the depth and drama of Winter.
Deep Autumn people usually suit colours that are:
- Rich
- Warm
- Earthy
- Dark
- Saturated
- Slightly dramatic
Think espresso brown, dark olive, aubergine, forest green, warm burgundy, dark teal, rust, mahogany, chocolate, camel and deep mustard.
These colours don’t overpower a Deep Autumn. Instead, they make them look more defined, polished and alive.
Why Zoe Deutch Reads as Deep Autumn
Zoe has a natural depth to her features. Her overall colouring can carry stronger, richer shades beautifully, especially colours with warmth and intensity.
On Zoe, very pale, icy or overly cool colours can feel a little separate from her natural beauty. They may look pretty as individual colours, but they do not always harmonise with her in the same effortless way.
By contrast, when she wears deeper Autumn tones, everything feels more balanced. Her features look more grounded, her eyes appear more defined, and her overall look becomes more expensive and cohesive.
This is one of the biggest clues with Deep Autumns: the right colours do not just “look nice”. They make the person look instantly more magnetic.
Zoe’s Best Deep Autumn Colours
For Zoe, I would love to see more of these shades:
Chocolate brown
This would be stunning on her. It has the same depth as black, but with more warmth and softness.
Dark olive green
A classic Deep Autumn shade. It would bring out the richness in her colouring without looking too loud.
Warm burgundy
Not a cool berry tone, but a rich wine or oxblood shade. This would give her that dramatic, elegant Deep Autumn effect.
Rust and burnt orange
These shades are incredibly Autumnal and would connect beautifully with her natural warmth.
Deep teal
A gorgeous alternative to navy or black. It has depth, but still feels interesting and luxurious.
Espresso and mahogany
These darker browns would be much more harmonious than stark black, especially near the face.
What Zoe Should Avoid
For a Deep Autumn, the colours that tend to be least harmonious are usually very cool, pale, icy or overly bright.
For Zoe, I would be careful with:
- Icy pink
- Cool lavender
- Pale grey
- Stark white
- Neon brights
- Very blue-based pastels
- Cool silver tones near the face
These colours can create too much separation from her natural warmth and depth. Rather than enhancing her, they may make the outfit stand out more than she does.
Is Black Bad for Deep Autumns?
Not necessarily.
Because Deep Autumn borders Winter, many Deep Autumns can wear black better than the lighter Autumn seasons. But black is not usually their best dark neutral.
For Zoe, I would swap harsh black for espresso, bitter chocolate, deep olive, warm charcoal or dark aubergine. These shades would still give her that dramatic effect, but they would feel more connected to her natural colouring.
Zoe Deutch’s Deep Autumn Makeup Palette
For makeup, Zoe would look beautiful in warm, rich and slightly earthy tones.
Her best makeup shades would likely include:
- Warm brown eyeliner
- Bronze eyeshadow
- Soft espresso smokey eyes
- Terracotta blush
- Cinnamon lipstick
- Brick red lipstick
- Warm rose-brown lips
- Golden bronzer
I would avoid anything too icy, blue-based or pastel. Deep Autumn makeup should feel rich, warm and defined rather than light, frosty or overly delicate.
